Web tracking is a process that revolves around collecting and sharing information about a person's activities online. It is mostly done through tracking cookies and digital fingerprinting.

If you care at all about maintaining your privacy, you probably already know how important it is to use a secure and private browser. But how can you determine if your browser is safe from tracking? There's a very handy tool you can use...

How to Check Browser Tracking Using a Cover Your Tracks Test

The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), a non-profit digital rights group based in the United States, has a simple and free tool called Cover Your Tracks that quickly checks if your browser is protecting you from tracking.

To conduct this check, head over to coveryourtracks.eff.org, and click the TEST YOUR BROWSER button. Also, make sure you enable the Test with a real tracking company function for a more reliable analysis.

In about 30 seconds or so, you will get a fairly detailed, but easy-to-read report regarding your browser's performance in terms of tracking protection. Using Cover Your Tracks, we first tested the Brave browser.

But what about a more mainstream browser like Microsoft Edge? How does it compare to Brave, and does it protect against tracking and fingerprinting? According to Cover Your Tracks, the answer is no: Edge has a unique fingerprint, and it does not block trackers.
